Introduction to Interior Design Projects

Assignment 1: SUPERsenses: Values of Observation & Abstraction

[1A] : (Observation) WHAT do you see?

This assignment, we are asked to sketch down the geometric transformation of our insects since we have done the figure drawing of the insects we have chosen. This is challenging as we need to transform it into geometric! It's not about curves, details and texture anymore but GEOMETRIC.

Geometric transformation -Final Drawing

Next, this assignment was to come out with a 3D model (< 5cm height) on a MDF board based on our geometric drawing. I faced difficulties when comes to nailing down the thumbtacks into the MDF board. About 7-8 thumbtacks needed to be sacrificed in order to successfully nail one down into the MDF board. (Opps~) I apologised for the mistakes since it was my first time doing this.

Here's my progress and photos of the previous model. On the submission day, lecturer advised me to redo some of the parts as it was not that accurate.

Materials used:
-MDF board
-Art card
-Strings & tiny thumbtacks
-Modelling board

Progress:
I nailed thumbtacks on a MDF board acted as points of the outline of my geometric butterfly. Secondly I started to create planes and volumes onto the 'wings' part using art card and modelling board. The huge part of the wings is made of folding techniques.

These are the parts that I wanna show the technique of layering. I layered the wings with strings on top of it and quilting paper below the wings.

Before:
This is my previous 3D model.

After:
This is my final 3D model for this assignment (Geometric transformation)
